Local History and
Genealogy Collections |

Before you visit
the library
Our collections are available during regular library hours, posted on our
home page. However, we
recommend that you call ahead to arrange a time when a reference librarian
can assist you.
Because we are not a research library,
and are not staffed to conduct in-depth research, the more specific you
are with your question, the better we can help you.
When you are ready to research,
you should plan to spend some time at the library. Items in our Local
History and Genealogy Collections do not circulate.
The library’s Local History
and Genealogy Collections include books, maps,
postcards, photos, newspaper clippings, and online resources.
Local History Collection
As of January 2006, patrons must register at
the library before using items from the Local History Collection. For more
information about how to register and use the collections, please read our
Special
Collections Policy.
Genealogy Collection
If you are doing genealogical research, see our
Genealogy Resources Flyer to get
started.
Library
Resources
Local History Books can be found using the
Library
Catalog. Books
in our Reference and Rhode Island Collections
must be used at the library. However, many books are part of our
Circulating Collection and can be checked
out of the library. A librarian will assist you in locating items.
Local History
maps, photos, postcards, news clippings etc. can be found using the
Scituate History Database. This database
can be searched from the
library or
from home.
Foster History
books can be found using the
Library
Catalog. Family histories and cemetery lists are available to
use at the library. Some non-book items are not available for use at this time.
Please email the Reference
Librarian or call 647-5133 to see if an item is available.
